With every passing day, natural products are getting more recognition for their health benefits. Researchers are also digging to know how these products can be used for various medical conditions. CBD and kombucha are two such products.
CBD and kombucha are individually making a lot of buzz in the health and wellness industry. Yet, CBD-infused kombucha is garnering even more attention.
There is a lot we still need to know about how either product works. What do you need to know about CBD kombucha? This article will shed some light on what we currently know.
What is Kombucha Tea?
Kombucha tea has been around for at least two millennia. Its origin takes root in China and has gradually spread to Japan and then Russia. From Russia, it has become a choice continental beverage in Europe since the 20th century. Kombucha tea has come a long way and is now widely consumed and available as a canned beverage.
It is a fermented beverage with remarkable health benefits. Kombucha is a carbonated natural sweet-to-sour drink. People who use this tea say it helps with health problems like high blood pressure, obesity, weak immunity, indigestion, etc.
However, only some of these claims have been confirmed by science. It also has antioxidant properties.
How is kombucha made? Making kombucha involves fermenting tea – sweetened green or black – using a SCOBY. SCOBY stands for symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast. The yeast breaks the sugar down to release the good bacteria (they don’t cause diseases).
Due to the fermentation process, kombucha has probiotics. Probiotics are bacteria that are friendly to the body. When these good bacteria colonize the gut, the bad bacteria will not have room to flourish.
This improves your gut health, reduces the risk of diarrhea and other gut problems. Some studies have shown that probiotics, as seen in kombucha, can also help with inflammatory and irritable bowel diseases like Crohn’s.
What is Cannabidiol?
Cannabidiol is a marijuana extract notable for its perceived health benefit. The compound a non-psychoactive cannabinoid. Hence, it cannot make you high. The primary substance in marijuana that gives the sensation of highness is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
The Endocannabinoid system is a complex biological system that includes CB receptors 1 and 2, enzymes, and endocannabinoids. The system might influence mood, appetite, sleep, pain sensation, immune response, etc. According to the generally accepted theory, CBD interacts directly or indirectly with this system.
Over the years, many studies have looked to ascertain the health benefits of CBD. However, the only FDA-approved use of CBD is in the treatment of some rare forms of epilepsy. People who use CBD say they use it for the following reasons:
– Pain management
– Relieve stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health problems
– Improves attention
– Anti-inflammatory
Why Should You Take CBD Kombucha?
You might have heard a lot of benefits of CBD Kombucha. How much of what you know is true? CBD and kombucha work differently.
When you use it together, it is likely the results are synergistic. This means you will probably get the benefits of CBD and kombucha. We have already mentioned these benefits.
CBD is available in various formulations and at different concentrations. It comes as drinks, pills, oil, cream, gummies, and vapes. You can make CBD drink like you are making your regular tea just with CBD.
Some other drinks might be wine (usually non-alcoholic), coffee, or just water.
How Safe Is CBD Kombucha?
Both CBD and kombucha are mostly considered safe by various studies. CBD is yet to be approved by FDA for reasons other than for treating some forms of epilepsy. So far, there has been nothing serious about the adverse effects.
However, both CBD and kombucha have side effects. As their use might be synergistic, the side effects could be too. In other words, side effects that are similar to both substances might get worse. If you use CBD kombucha, you can experience these side effects from either compound.
The side effects of CBD are headaches, dry mouth, dizziness. While the side effects of kombucha include stomach upset, nausea, infection (yeast), vomiting, etc., there could be more severe side effects like yellowing of the eyes and skin (jaundice) and allergic reactions.
The risks of having problems after taking kombucha are higher among people with compromised immune systems. This includes people living with HIV, kidney problems, and those on cancer treatment.
There is no verdict on the safety of using CBD-infused kombucha. There have been no significant reports of adverse effects. It would be best if you still exercised caution with the use.
If you have any underlying conditions, check with your physicians to make sure you can use it. CBD, kombucha, or the combination are not replacements for the treatments you get. Stick with your pills and therapy for whatever health condition you are living with.
In Summary
CBD and kombucha are natural wellness products growing a lot in popularity. CBD kombucha is a mixture of both compounds to form one unique beverage. We do not know much about this beverage, but it might combine the benefits of both compounds.
